A welcomed addition to the dining scene in southern Rabun County, The Shed, J & K’s Kitchen was created from the collaboration of Chef Jamie Allred and Kelsey McCracken. Both have a passion for great food, quality ingredients, and customer service.
Jamie is an award-winning chef and co-owner of Fortify Kitchen and Bar and Fortify Pi in downtown Clayton. He is a 2000 graduate of Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College culinary arts program. He has been in the restaurant industry for 25 years. A Rabun County native, Kelsey is a 2010 French Culinary Institute graduate and winner of a James Beard Foundation scholarship while attending the institute in NYC. She has been in the hospitality and restaurant industry for 15 years.
Their goal was to create an inviting breakfast and lunch experience in Lakemont for locals and lake homeowners alike. They offer breakfast and lunch with limited indoor seating, a large pet-friendly outdoor seating area, online ordering and a drive-thru for call-ahead orders. In the Spring, they will be taking the show on the road on Saturdays. The schedule for their food truck will posted on social media and their website.
For breakfast, they specialize in made-from-scratch cathead biscuits that gained a legendary following after just a few short weeks. Couple the biscuits with cooked-to-order quality meats, house-made spreads, freshly made sausage gravy and platters and you have a breakfast to remember.
For lunch, The Shed offers a surprising variety of choices including jumbo fried chicken tenders, house-smoked BBQ, tacos, build-your-own hamburgers and sandwiches. They feature a Chef Jamie’s famous collard greens and Kelsey’s chocolate caramel ganache tart along with other desserts made in-house.
Visit them soon for breakfast or lunch. They are open Tuesdays through Fridays for breakfast 7-10:30 am and for lunch from 10:30 am until 2 pm. Also, check them out on Facebook and Instagram for daily/weekly specials.
