Lake Rabun Hotel Turns Ninety And Celebrates Its Birthday All Year!

The Lake Rabun Hotel was built in 1922 during Prohibition and the Roaring Twenties. It was a ripe and daring time in our nation’s history filled with stories of outlaws, bootleggers, and new dances like the Lindy Hop and Charleston, danced to the ever growing popular swing/jazz music of the time.

While all of that was going on, Augustus Andreae, who had grown up in Milan and along the shores of Lake Cuomo in Italy, had found the spot of his dreams in the mountains of North Georgia. He, with his wife and daughters, opened the Lake Rabun Hotel to celebrate and share the joys of this wonderful, natural environment he loved with those lucky enough to find him and the Lake Rabun Hotel.
After ninety years of existence, this year we celebrate our birthday and will continue to celebrate it all year long. To launch this celebration we started the Lake Rabun Hotel & Restaurant Birthday Club to express our gratitude to our loyal patrons, and to jointly celebrate both yours and our birthdays. Please sign up and allow us to give you a token of our appreciation on your special day. You can join the Birthday Club by e-mailing us your name, date of birth, and phone number at
We are proud to be the last surviving inn located on a lake in the mountains of Georgia. We’re restored and strong and looking forward to the next ninety years serving you, your children, and grandchildren just as we have always done.
Announcements of further celebrations of our birthday will continue throughout the year. Stay tuned. We’re going to have some fun in 2012.
