Mountain City Buck Dance and Square Dance Party
Just like the days of old to commemorate the Bicentennial Celebration for Rabun County, Mountain City will bring back the Saturday Night Buck Dance (Square Dance) party.
Although the Playhouse is not able to be used, City Hall in Mountain City is. You will feel like you have stepped back in time to a great memory for locals, campers, and visitors alike.
After World War II, the American Legion Post in Clayton began operation of a dance hall as a fund-raiser. Up to 1,500 dancers and spectators could fill the hall on a Saturday night. The Playhouse ceased operation in the early 1980s.
We are ever so grateful to the Historical Society for capturing all the memories of the past 200 years. Take time to visit them the next time you are in town and see all there is about the last #Rabun200th.
Join us on July 20, 2019 beginning at 5:00 pm. At that time, we will be giving lessons and demonstrations so that you will be able to join the fun once the dance begins. At 7:00 pm the Buck Dancing & Square Dancing will commence and it will be your chance to join the fun.
We will have a live caller on site with a dance troupe from Franklin, NC to give demonstrations and lessons. When the caller is taking a break, we are thrilled to have the fantastically family-friendly band CEDAR HILL on stage to perform for your dancing and listening pleasure.
Cedar Hill is an Award-winning bluegrass group from Atlanta, Georgia. Cedar Hill will give a high energy show, that features variety, comedy and entertainment, tight harmony, unique vocal arrangements, and masterful picking on the 5-string banjo, mandolin, acoustic guitar, and electric bass.
Voted Favorite Bluegrass Act by Country Atlanta in 2006. Cedar Hill has a diverse repertoire that includes traditional and contemporary bluegrass, oldie goldies from the ’40s through the ’80s, some classic rock n roll, gospel, country, folk, pop, and jazz. Entertaining audiences of all ages, backgrounds, and cultures is a specialty of Cedar Hill’s. In the national publication Bluegrass Unlimited, one music reviewer referred to Cedar Hill as the fun bunch of the genre. The multi-talented group loves to make audiences laugh with their wit, off-beat humor, and their great collection of novelty songs.
